Feenstra Supports Small Business Recovery and Praises USDA Bird Flu Strategy

In Washington, D.C., U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra of Hull has been actively supporting key initiatives this week. On February 26th, Feenstra backed the Rural Small Business Resilience Act, which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation aims to provide small businesses with the financial support they need in the aftermath of disasters.

Rep. Feenstra emphasized the importance of this act, stating, “In Iowa, we’ve faced floods, tornadoes, and derechos that have devastated our communities and hurt our businesses on Main Street, which are the backbone of our economy. When disaster strikes, we need to ensure that our small businesses have the immediate financial support they need to get back on their feet.”

Feenstra highlighted that the Rural Small Business Resilience Act will enable small businesses to access disaster assistance, recover quickly, and keep employees on payroll. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, he pledged to continue supporting policies that strengthen the business community and grow main streets.

In addition to his support for small businesses, Feenstra praised the Trump administration’s announcement of its High Path Avian Influenza (HPAI) Strategy to combat bird flu. He released a statement applauding the strategy, which aims to end the surge of bird flu cases, support producers, and lower egg prices for families.

Feenstra stated, “I am glad to see many provisions that I have called for outlined in this strategy, including fairer indemnity payments for our producers, increased biosecurity measures on our farms, and an aggressive, yet voluntary, vaccination strategy to prevent mass depopulation of chickens and turkeys. I thank Secretary Rollins for her rapid work and response to the bird flu outbreak and look forward to working with USDA and the Trump administration to bring egg prices down, stand with our producers, and prevent and mitigate the spread of foreign animal disease.”

Earlier this month, Feenstra led a letter with 22 of his House colleagues to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, urging the USDA to strengthen its efforts to resolve the ongoing outbreak of HPAI affecting poultry and dairy producers across the country.
