Dordt University alum and Hull resident Randy Feenstra officially kicked off his campaign for Iowa governor Monday evening at an event held on his alma mater’s campus.
Feenstra, who currently represents Iowa’s Fourth District in Congress, says he wants to take Iowa to “new heights,” emphasizing his small-town upbringing and status as a fourth-generation Iowan.
As part of his remarks, Feenstra said he was pleased that “Sarah’s Law,” included in the “Laken Riley Act,” was passed earlier this year under President Trump.
He also used the event to draw a contrast with his Democratic opponent in the governor’s race, Rob Sand.
Feenstra outlined four priority areas for his campaign: strengthening Iowa’s agricultural and business climate, providing world-class education, encouraging young Iowans to stay in the state, and improving healthcare access.
He closed the event by sharing four core values he hopes Iowa will continue to be rooted in.
Feenstra, one of five Republicans running for governor, also told reporters he expects work on the Farm Bill to resume in earnest when the House reconvenes. He also plans to vote tomorrow (Wednesday) on the plan to reopen the federal government.
