Republican Congressman Randy Feenstra of Hull has formally filed paperwork to run for governor of Iowa.
Feenstra submitted his nomination petitions on Monday to the Iowa Secretary of State’s office, turning in signatures from all 99 counties and more than double the number required to qualify for the ballot in the June Republican primary.
Candidates for governor must submit at least 3,500 signatures from eligible Iowa voters, including at least 100 signatures from 19 counties. Feenstra says his campaign exceeded that threshold by a wide margin.
Feenstra says his campaign submitted more than 7,500 signatures.
The fourth-district congressman announced his campaign in October last year and has been traveling the state as part of a statewide tour.
Feenstra, who was featured in our “Road to Iowa Governor 2026” series in January, says the campaign has been focused on meeting voters across Iowa as he seeks the Republican nomination.
According to the campaign, Feenstra has made nearly 80 stops across Iowa so far while building support for his bid.
The campaign also notes Feenstra has secured endorsements from several Republican officials, including U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer, State Treasurer Roby Smith, and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks.
Feenstra has also launched a seven-figure statewide advertising campaign across television, streaming, digital platforms, and mail promoting his candidacy.
Feenstra is currently serving his third term representing Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District in the U.S. House. Before being elected to Congress in 2020, he served in the Iowa State Senate and previously worked as the Sioux County Treasurer.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday to submit nomination petitions for the June primary election. Feenstra joins former state representative Brad Sherman as the only other GOP candidate to submit their signatures so far. Feenstra kicked off his gubernatorial campaign with an event at his alma mater, Dordt University, last November.
