Iowa Fourth District Congressman Randy Feenstra has announced a new “Students for Feenstra” coalition, made up of students from high schools, community colleges, and universities across Iowa.
The coalition includes 52 students statewide, including 18 from Dordt University.
Feenstra says the effort is aimed at improving education and preparing students for future careers in Iowa.
Feenstra discussed the coalition, among other things, in an interview with Sioux County Radio.
He says that a key is connecting education more directly with workforce needs, particularly as industries continue to evolve.
Feenstra, a Republican from Hull, says keeping more young people in Iowa is a top priority, noting the state has seen many graduates leave in recent years.
He says that effort includes stronger connections among schools, businesses, and communities, as well as improving the quality of life in smaller towns.
Feenstra also discussed federal agriculture priorities, including work on the next Farm Bill and year-round E-15.
He says the legislation includes provisions to expand export markets and address issues affecting Iowa producers.
Feenstra also addressed the ongoing partial federal government shutdown, expressing frustration over negotiations in Washington.
He also responded to recent “No Kings” protests, saying demonstrations reflect free speech while defending the current political system.
Feenstra, who is running for governor, says his campaign will continue to focus on education, economic development, and keeping young people in Iowa.
