Fake Survey Scam Spreads Beyond Hull to Other Area Communities

A scam text message posing as a local issues survey that was first reported earlier this week in Hull is now being reported by residents across Northwest Iowa.

The City of Hull issued an alert earlier this week warning residents about a text claiming to be a “quick local Hull (or other city) issues survey” that included a link to a web form. City officials said the message did not come from the city or the Hull Chamber of Commerce.

Now, Sioux Center city officials say residents contacted them after hearing the Hull report, saying they received the same message.

In addition, one Orange City resident commented on the Sioux County Radio Facebook page, saying they also received the text.

City officials say the origin of the message remains unknown, and it should be considered spam and potentially harmful.

Residents across Northwest Iowa are urged not to click or tap on the link and to delete the message if they receive it.
