Sioux County Emergency Management is warning residents about high fire danger this weekend. Strong southerly winds, with gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour, combined with dry conditions, are expected Saturday afternoon and evening.
While humidity will remain just above critical levels, officials say the strong winds raise the risk of rapid fire spread. Residents are urged to avoid burning or doing any activities that could create sparks.
Farmers and landowners are also encouraged to keep a tractor hooked up to a disc, which can be one of the most effective ways to contain and stop field fires quickly. Emergency Management says awareness and preparation will be key to keeping Sioux County safe.
