Drone Program Introduced by Lyon County Sheriff’s Department

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is introducing a new Drone Program in an effort to make the county safer.

In a post on the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page, the office announced the implementation of technology that “has the ability to help save lives”. They say in the post that the drone they have has a high-resolution camera, thermal capabilities, and can be equipped with a spotlight and loudspeaker.

The drone could be helpful in a situation where someone, such as a child, has wandered. Other examples they list include: tracking an individual who may be armed, assisting a fire department in assessing a fire scene, and mapping crashes or crime scenes.

The post concludes by stating, “We all know that time is of the essence in many of these situations, so having this technology available to respond and deploy quickly can really be the difference between life and death.”
