A Hawarden woman was injured in a rollover crash northeast of Hawarden on Wednesday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at about 11:48 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and 440th Street, about one mile northeast of Hawarden.

Authorities say 19-year-old Crystal Elizabeth Ramirez-Santillan of Hawarden was driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla northbound on Cherry Avenue when the vehicle entered the shoulder of the roadway. Deputies say Ramirez-Santillan lost control of the vehicle, which rolled onto 440th Street.

Ramirez-Santillan became trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency responders. She was transported by Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Ramirez-Santillan was cited for failure to maintain control.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Ambulance, and the Hawarden Fire Department.
