Dordt University has received a $38,135 rebate from Sioux Center Municipal Utilities after installing energy-efficient technology in several recent campus additions, part of an ongoing effort to reduce energy use and improve long-term efficiency.
The rebate was awarded through the Bright Energy Solutions program, which offers financial incentives to customers who invest in qualifying energy-efficient equipment. The program is available to business and residential customers of community-owned utilities and is funded through Sioux Center Municipal Utilities’ partnership with Missouri River Energy Services.
City Building and Code Official Kris Pieper says a major factor in the rebate amount was the university’s installation of an ice storage system designed to reduce strain on cooling equipment and lower peak energy demand.
In addition to ice storage, Dordt installed LED lighting and other energy-efficient equipment in its new dining commons, recital hall, offices, cottages, and kitchen areas.
Sioux Center Assistant Utilities Manager Adam Fedders says Dordt has consistently prioritized energy efficiency and has participated in rebate programs during past campus projects as well.
Utility officials say rebates are calculated based on projected long-term energy savings compared to standard equipment. By encouraging customers to install more efficient systems, the program helps reduce peak energy demand and supports more efficient operation of the community’s electric system.
Dordt officials say the upgrades reflect the university’s commitment to stewardship and long-term sustainability, while the rebate helps offset the cost of those investments. Find out about the wide variety of rebates that you could apply for by visiting SiouxCenter.org.
