Dordt University Involved in Data Breach

Dordt University recently released information on their website informing of a data breach. The breach occurred last year and had a limited amount of personal information accessed.

According to the University, they detected unauthorized access to its network as a result of a sophisticated cybersecurity incident.

Following the detection of the incident, Dordt immediately took steps to remediate the incident and commenced a thorough investigation. As part of this investigation, they have been working closely with external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling these types of incidents. The investigation determined that a limited amount of data was potentially accessed and acquired from their network between approximately April 21st, 2024, and May 16th, 2024.

The Statement went on to say: Following a forensic investigation and thorough document review process, they confirmed on June 19, 2025, that the impacted data includes first and last name with one or more of the following: date of birth, account number, routing number, security code, social security number, driver’s license number, username and password, health insurance information, and medical information. The types of impacted information varied by individual.

Dordt went on to say that security and privacy of the information contained within their systems is a top priority for them. In response to this incident, they took immediate steps to secure their systems and engaged third-party forensic experts to assist in the investigation. Further, they are implementing additional cybersecurity safeguards, as needed.

On July 11, 2025, Dordt provided notice to impacted individuals in accordance with their legal obligations and to the extent they had valid mailing addresses. If an individual did not receive a letter but would like to know if they are potentially affected, they may call 877-841-3084 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central Time, excluding holidays.
