Dordt Townhome Construction Progressing

The construction of the Fourth Avenue Townhomes at Dordt University is progressing well according to Vice President for University Operations Fred Verwoerd.

The townhomes, adjacent to the President’s Home, will consist of 10 units and house a total of 48 students.

Verwoerd says insulation, electrical, and plumbing work, as well as sheetrock installation is taking place, and that he estimates the townhomes will be completed by mid-August.

Robert Taylor, vice president for student success and dean of students, says the townhomes will be a beautiful, functional, and aesthetic addition to 4th Avenue that gives the university flexibility to serve students in the near-term while considering future high-capacity building options closer to the heartbeat of campus.

The townhomes are being constructed in part because of Dordt’s continued growth. Last fall, Dordt achieved record enrollment with an overall enrollment of 1,911 students – exceeding the fall 2022 record of 1,858 students.

Dordt University President Erik Hoekstra says that to have Dordt’s undergraduate enrollment grow by more than 15 percent over the last decade while higher education overall shrunk by nearly 15 percent is certainly an encouragement.  More importantly, he adds, it’s a tribute to God’s faithfulness.
