Dordt University dedicated the new Atrium, Recital Hall, and the new Cottages to the Lord on Saturday, October 18. Dordt is expanding to house more students thanks to the unexpected growth in enrollment. Fred Verwoerd, VP for University Operations, lays out Dordt’s building strategy.
He explains that all of Dordt’s upperclassmen housing is built to prepare students for life after college.
The Cottages are all a slightly different shade of green or brown, so that they are all uniquely different. Inside, they have three bedrooms, two upstairs and one on the main floor, each with two beds and two desks. Upstairs, there is a full bathroom, a half bathroom on the main floor, and another full bath connected to the bedroom on the main floor. Sydney Vanderpol, a resident in the Cottages, reflects on her experience so far.
Austin Anderson, also a student resident at the Cottages, shares how the Cottage experience has been preparing him for life after Dordt.
Housing at Dordt hasn’t always been full of apartments and Cottages for students. In fact, before housing was offered, commuting was the way for many people to get to the University. Verwoerd looks back at Dordt’s housing history.
Verwoerd believes the future is bright at Dordt with more housing projects to begin next year to keep up with the ever-growing student body.
Derek Buteyn, Director of Students and Resident Life, illustrates that Dordt University isn’t building to look cool or to be the biggest college in Siouxland, they’re building for their students.
Dordt University is growing bright so that every student may learn the essential things, meet new people, and learn to be ready for life after college.
