A Doon man was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital after a rollover crash near Alvord on Tuesday morning.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 9:45 a.m. on 210th Street, about three-quarters of a mile west of Alvord. Deputies say 68-year-old Gail Van Berkum was driving west on the icy roadway when he lost control. His 1999 Ford pickup left the road, rolled over, and came to rest on its roof. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Sanford AirMed 9 transported Van Berkum to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Authorities say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The pickup, valued at about $2,500, was considered totaled. Van Berkum was cited for failure to maintain control.
