The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus will bring its big top to Hawarden Saturday, August 1, for two family-friendly performances.
Two Shows Under the Big Top
Shows are scheduled for 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. on the north lot of West Sioux High School. Hawarden Chamber of Commerce Director Julie Coyle says tickets can be purchased in advance.
“They have shows here at two and four-thirty. You can pick up presale tickets at the Hawarden Chamber office in the library, or you can go right to Culpepper and Merriweather online and grab your tickets.”
Coyle says the circus has made Hawarden a regular stop for about 15 years.
“They arrive in the middle of the night. They set up, and they are gone the following morning with not a scrap of trash left. They come in, they do two performances and take off.”
The 90-minute, one-ring show will feature big cats, tightrope performers, aerialists, fire eating, trained dogs, foot juggling, daredevils and more.
Tickets and Midway Activities
Discounted advance tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. They are available at the Hawarden Public Library, Rivers Edge Bank, Peoples Bank, Hawarden City Offices and Sunshine Foods.
Online advance tickets are available through 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, or until sold out. Tickets purchased at Saturday’s box office will cost $17 for adults and $10 for children ages two through 12 and seniors 65 and older. Children younger than two are admitted free.
The midway will open one hour before each performance with concessions, pony rides, face painting and inflatable rides. A portion of advance ticket proceeds will support the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the appearance.
