A Colorado Springs man faces two felony charges and four misdemeanor counts following an alleged domestic assault at a Sioux Center hotel early Sunday, September 20.
Christopher Michael Burruss, 37, was arrested by the Sioux Center Police Department after an incident at the Holiday Inn, 100 St. Andrews Way.
Police Respond to Report of Screaming
According to criminal complaints filed in Sioux County District Court, the incident occurred at approximately 2:31 a.m. Officers were dispatched after receiving a report of screaming coming from a guest room.
In supporting affidavits, police reported observing visible marks on a woman’s face, neck, and arm. The woman told officers Burruss had applied pressure to her neck, leaving her unable to breathe.
Police said the condition of the room was consistent with the woman’s account of the alleged assault.
According to the affidavits, both Burruss and the woman told officers a protective order was in effect. Officers reviewed the order and confirmed it remained active at the time of the incident.
Police also reported that three children shared by Burruss and the woman were present and witnessed the alleged assault.
Charges and Release
Burruss faces the following charges:
•Domestic abuse assault impeding air or blood flow causing bodily injury, a Class D felony.
•Assault committed by a person subject to a protective order against a person protected by that order, a Class D felony.
•Three counts of child endangerment, each an aggravated misdemeanor.
•Violation of a no-contact or protective order, a simple misdemeanor.
Burruss was being held on a $16,300 cash or surety bond and was released on September 20 through a bondsman.
