According to the Sioux Center Police Department, a young child was injured after being struck by a car at 7:45 Friday morning. The child was walking to Kinsey Elementary School and was crossing 10th St. SE. when the accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle reported being temporarily blinded by the sun when the child was struck. That part of the street has a posted pedestrian crossing sign, but no marked crosswalk on the road.
The child received only minor abrasions. The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to give right of way to a pedestrian.
