Charles City Man Injured in Boyden Crash Monday

A Charles City man was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon along Highway 18 in Boyden.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened around 4:50 p.m. near Demco. Troopers say 24-year-old Dalton Stover of Charles City was driving westbound in a 1998 Chrysler when he apparently crossed the centerline after becoming fatigued from a long day of travel. His passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was asleep in the front seat.

Stover’s car struck the rear axles of a semi-trailer driven eastbound by 26-year-old Juan Meza Huizar of Inwood, who was driving for Rock River Ag Transport. Another truck traveling behind captured the collision on its dash camera.

Stover was taken by the Boyden Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Hospital for treatment. Meza Huizar was not injured.

Damage to the Chrysler was estimated at $3,000; the semi sustained about $40,000 in damage.

Both drivers were cited. Stover faces charges including driving on the wrong side of the road, no insurance, and driving while suspended. Meza Huizar was cited for driving without a valid license and failing the English language proficiency test.
