(KIWA) — A Boyden man was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Rock Valley on Monday, September 21.
According to the Rock Valley Police Department, the crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Highway 18. Seventeen-year-old Micah Blom of Inwood was driving a 2017 Ram pickup eastbound behind a 2021 Toyota pickup driven by 46-year-old Jesse Van Diepen of Boyden.
Police say Van Diepen stopped for a vehicle that was turning ahead of him. Blom told police he was adjusting the radio and did not see that Van Diepen had stopped. His pickup struck Van Diepen’s pickup from behind. The turning vehicle was not involved in the collision.
The Rock Valley Ambulance transported Van Diepen to Hegg Health Center Avera Hospital with complaints of neck and back pain. Blom reported no injuries.
Damage was estimated at $5,000 to Blom’s pickup and $7,000 to Van Diepen’s pickup.
Blom was cited for following too closely.
