MOC-Floyd Valley Community School District has selected longtime teacher and coach Blake Wieking as its next middle school principal.

The MOC-Floyd Valley Board of Education approved Wieking for the position earlier this month. He will officially begin the role on August 1st.

Wieking has spent the past 13 years as a social studies instructor at the MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School. Before entering education, he served as the head women’s soccer coach at Northwestern College. He is a graduate of Sioux Falls Christian High School and Northwestern College, where he also played soccer.

MOC-Floyd Valley Superintendent Mike Mulder says the district believes Wieking brings the kind of steady leadership the middle school needs moving forward.

Mulder says Wieking has already played a major role in several school leadership and culture-building initiatives, including PBIS and Leader in Me programs at the middle school.

According to Mulder, those efforts have focused heavily on leadership development, positive student behavior, and community service opportunities.

Assistant High School Principal Grant Hegstad says Wieking has become a highly visible and trusted leader within the middle school building.

Hegstad also highlighted Wieking’s involvement in PBIS initiatives that recently helped the middle school earn regional recognition for student leadership and service projects.

Wieking will replace current middle school principal Larry Carlson, who is returning to eastern Iowa following the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year.

Mulder says the district is excited about the future and the leadership Wieking will bring as preparations continue for the upcoming 2026-27 school year.
