The American State Bank Sports Complex is preparing to welcome the public to a free open house Friday. Activities, events, and open turf time in the ASB Sports Complex, a partnership between the City of Sioux Center, and Dordt University, are set to begin this month.
Carrie Krohn, ASB Sports Complex Director thinks people will be awed and surprised about the headhouse space with its big windows and natural lighting, and even more surprised as they enter the dome and see how big it is. Krohn says throughout the year, the complex will offer batting cage use, walking and jogging memberships, league play for different ages, and rentals. Local and regional teams, including Dordt University, will also rent it for athletic practices, games, and tournaments.
City Manager Scott Wynja says the ASB Sports Complex is another community amenity offering a variety of programs and services, a destination and attraction to the community that will have an economic and tourism impact.
Dordt’s Athletic Director, Ross Douma says not only will Dordt athletics benefit from using the facility, but for a community the size of Sioux Center to have access to a an indoor turf dome will be a great way to enhance athletic and recreational programs, provide institutional visibility, and highlight the community partnership.
The open house is scheduled for Friday, January 6, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
