Alton Man Sentenced to Up to 10 Years for Sexual Abuse of Minor

(Storm Lake Radio) — An Alton man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor in Storm Lake.

Dany Duarte, 49, was sentenced Monday, October 5, in Buena Vista County District Court by Judge Shayne Mayer.

According to the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office, the investigation began with a report in June that Duarte had inappropriately touched a minor without the victim’s consent. The victim disclosed the incident to family members that same day, and a report was made to the Storm Lake Police Department.

Duarte was arrested June 7 and charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. He entered an oral guilty plea to the charge on September 21.

Mayer sentenced Duarte to a prison term not to exceed 10 years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Following his release from prison, Duarte will be placed on the sex offender registry and will remain under parole supervision for the rest of his life, according to the county attorney’s office.

The Storm Lake Police Department investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Buena Vista County Attorney Paul Allen.
