Alcester Man Injured in Crash at Million Dollar Corner

An Alcester, South Dakota, man was injured in a collision involving an SUV and a dump truck at Million Dollar Corner south of Sioux Center.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. on July 23 at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 75, four miles south of Sioux Center.

Authorities say 78-year-old Virasack Moumy was driving a 2016 Mazda CX-5 eastbound on Highway 10 as he approached the intersection. Sixty-year-old Jonathan Meek of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Peterbilt tractor and dump trailer southbound on Highway 75.

The Sheriff’s Office says Moumy entered the intersection, and the two vehicles collided.

Moumy was taken by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of his injuries.

Damage was estimated at approximately $15,000 to the Mazda and $60,000 to the Peterbilt.

Moumy was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Sioux Center Police Department, Orange City Police Department, Sioux Center Ambulance, Maurice First Responders and Sioux County Emergency Management.
