Albia Man Arrested on Felony Grooming Charge in Lyon County

An Albia, Iowa, man has been arrested on a felony grooming charge following an investigation involving online communications with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old.

According to court documents, 55-year-old Jeffrey LeMay of Albia was arrested this week by a Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy.

In a statement, the deputy says that beginning in November or December of last year, LeMay communicated with an undercover officer, whom he believed to be a 15-year-old from Larchwood.

Authorities allege LeMay attempted to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice the person he believed to be a minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct. He is also accused of sending obscene material to the undercover officer he believed to be the 15-year-old.

LeMay was charged with grooming, a Class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

He also faces three misdemeanor counts of telephone dissemination of obscene material to a minor, in connection with three obscene images he is accused of sending.

LeMay faces a preliminary hearing on February 6th.

At last report, LeMay remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of an $11,000 bond.
