Additional Arrests Made in Hull Burglary Investigation

Authorities say additional arrests have been made in connection with a burglary investigation at a Hull business that was first reported late last month.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating the burglary on February 25th at a business in Hull. During the investigation, authorities executed multiple search warrants at residences in Hull, where deputies say stolen property was recovered.

As previously reported, 34-year-old Jakob Gamboa of Hull was arrested on March 1st and transported to the Sioux County Jail. He was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, along with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, both Class D felonies.

Investigators say the case later expanded to include two additional suspects.

Authorities say 33-year-old Jesse Van Leeuwen of Hull initially fled the area, and arrest warrants were issued. During the investigation, deputies also determined he had a stolen vehicle.

Officials say they also learned that 60-year-old Jodi Van Leeuwen of Hull assisted Jesse Van Leeuwen in avoiding law enforcement.

Jodi Van Leeuwen was arrested on Monday, March 10th, and transported to the Sioux County Jail. She has been charged with accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, first offense, a serious misdemeanor.

Jesse Van Leeuwen was later located and arrested on Tuesday, March 11th. He was transported to the Sioux County Jail and faces multiple charges, including first-degree theft, a Class C felony; second-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree burglary, all Class D felonies. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says several agencies assisted with the investigation, including the Sioux Center Police Department, Rock Valley Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Spirit Lake Police Department, Arnolds Park Police Department, and the Okoboji Police Department.

Authorities note that criminal charges are accusations and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
