The speed limit on the recently-paved portion of 13th Ave. SE south of 20th St. SE will likely be 45 MPH.
This week, the Sioux Center City Council approved setting the speed limit of 45 MPH on 13th Ave. SE for the half-mile that was paved just south of 20th St SE. The Sioux County Board of Supervisors must also approve the proposed speed limit. The roadway is in the jurisdiction of both the City of Sioux Center and Sioux County because 13th Ave. SE is on the east corporate line of Sioux Center.
For this section of road, which is just east of the Ridge golf course and the South Ridge Estates residential area, the speed limit will match the existing limit on 13th Ave. SE north of this section.
“To remain consistent with the speed zones on the neighboring sections and because 45 MPH was established in Iowa code for suburban districts, we are proposing that this half-mile of 13th Ave. SE also be 45 MPH,” said Sioux Center Police Chief Josh Koedam.
