3 Vehicle Crash in Construction Zone

Three vehicles were involved in a construction zone accident near Boyden Friday evening.  The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident on Highway 18 east of Boyden shortly after 6:30pm.  37-year-old James Fuhrman of Sheldon was westbound on Highway 18 in a Kia Optima and was stopped for a stop sign in a construction zone waiting for a pilot car.  16-year-old Bielka Morales of Sheldon was stopped behind Fuhrman in a Ford Explorer.  17-year-old Makenna Wallin from Paullina was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on Highway 18 and failed to stop, striking the rear of Wallin’s Ford pushing it into Fuhrman’s Kia.

Minor injuries were reported, and all parties involved declined further medical attention.  Damage to the Kia was estimated at $5,000; damage to the Morales Explorer was estimated at $8,000 and damage to the Wallin Explorer was estimated at $12,000. 

Wallin was cited for failing to stop in assured clear distance.
