USDA investing in regional food systems

USDA is investing billions of dollars into regional food systems.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the funding not only benefits rural and underserved communities, but also farmers.

“Go to the grocery store and you put your dollar on the counter.”  He says, “Farmer gets about $0.20 on average of that food dollar. When you buy something at a local and regional food opportunity, a farmer’s market, or farm-to-school program, that farmer gets 50-cents to $0.75 of every food dollar.
