Swine Health Information Center executive director Dr. Megan Niederwerder says they’ve conducted nearly 20 research projects on wean-to-harvest biosecurity.

“One example of a project that was recently completed is a project looking at how do we enhance motivation and compliance of personnel, animal caretakers, on the swine farm.”

She tells Brownfield it’s a novel approach.

“Rewarding those personnel, but also having those supervisor support and performance feedback of those that are executing biosecurity protocols may really enhance biosecurity.”

Brownfield interviewed Niederwerder during the 2024 World Pork Expo in Des Moines Thursday.
