Drier weather has helped Tennessee farmers make decent planting progress.
Corn is 31 percent planted, running 11 percent behind last year, but ahead of the 5-year average. Five percent of the crop is emerged. Soybeans are 17 percent planted, ahead of last year’s pace and the 5-year average. Cotton is 1 percent planted, on par with the 5-year average.
Winter wheat is 86 percent jointed and 36 percent headed, with 83 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.
