Seasonal heat and rainfall for much of the Heartland; cooler air builds to the north

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for above-normal temperatures nationwide, with the Northwest having the greatest likelihood of experiencing hot weather.  Meanwhile, near- or above-normal rainfall across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal conditions in the Pacific Northwest and from the east-central Plains into the Tennessee and lower Ohio Valleys.
