Scattered showers, strong storms return to the Plains; another dry day for the Midwest Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, isolated showers are developing from the Mississippi Valley westward.  U.S. soybean planting, 68% complete on May 26, is ahead of the 5-year average pace in all major production states except Iowa and Nebraska.  The slight planting delays in the western Corn Belt are related to rampant spring storminess, which has effectively ended the region’s long-running drought.

On the Plains, overnight thunderstorms pounded parts of Texas and neighboring states with rain, wind, and hail.
