U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says preventing the spread of H5N1 Influenza A in dairy cattle is a priority for the ag industry.
Iowa’s first case of avian influenza in dairy cattle was announced on Wednesday, impacting a herd in O’Brien County. Hinson tells Brownfield she’s confident state officials and producers will work swiftly to control the spread.
“We know its affect on poultry,” she said. “We know if milk is pasteurized that it is safe, but obviously animal health is a huge priority.”
The Iowa Republican says Congress can help provide foreign animal disease resources for dairy and poultry producers.
