Midday cash livestock markets

Another quiet start to the day for direct cash cattle trade activity.  A few early asking prices have surfaced at $142 live in the South, while the North has been quiet.  Bids have yet to be established.  A little business could develop today, but it’s likely the bulk of the week’s trade will take place at midweek or later. 

Boxed beef is mixed at midday on moderate demand for moderate offerings.  Choice is $1.49 higher at $257 and Select is $.03 lower at $249.91.  The Choice/Select spread is $7.09. 

At the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to last week feeder steers under 450 pounds were $4 to $10 higher with heavier weights steady to $2 higher.
