Michigan plantings, asparagus harvest nearly finished

Warm weather has been good for planting progress and the end of asparagus harvest.

West Michigan specialty crop grower Steve Riley tells Brownfield this will be his last week picking asparagus.

“Just in the past week, we’ve seen yields after the last little heat wave we had really tank off hard,” he shares. “Our yields are 50 to under 100 pounds an acre on some stuff and that field has given us everything it has so far.”

The USDA says 95 percent of corn has been planted in Michigan, 80 percent is emerged, and 74 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.
