A western Illinois family is finding success in the cattle industry.
Tim Maiers says they decided to expand their Adams County farming operation two years ago when his son came back to the farm.
“We looked at getting into backgrounding.” He says, “We’ve got capacity of about 800 head of calves between 4 and 600 pounds and getting them up to about 8-900 pounds and then selling them to feed lots in the upper Midwest.”
Tim’s son, Trevor, tells Brownfield recent high cattle prices mean the new endeavor is a balancing act.
