Kentucky crops:  corn, soybean planting progress behind 5-year average

Widespread rains continue to delay fieldwork for many Kentucky farmers. 

Corn is 90 percent planted, behind both last year and the five-year averages.  Seventy-six percent of the crop is emerged, and 68 percent is rated good to excellent, an 11 percent decline on the week.  Soybeans are 71 percent planted, running 13 points behind last year and 3 points behind the five-year average.  The crop is 57 percent emerged with 63 percent rated good to excellent.
