Kansas water meetings start next week

The Kansas Agriculture Secretary says public meetings start next week to discuss how to conserve low water levels in the High Plains Aquifer, a geologic formation that stretches from Texas to South Dakota.

Mike Beam tells Brownfield the past few years of drought have sped up the discussion on water availability and quality in the aquifer, but declines in the aquifer have been happening over the last 20 years.

“If you look at the regions of the state where the largest dollar amount of ag products are produced, it’s right above the High Plains Aquifer.
