Kansas fields could use more rain

Many Kansas farmers are wishing for more moisture as the growing season begins.  USDA’s crop progress report shows topsoil moisture ratings in Kansas are just 1% surplus with 34% of fields having adequate moisture, with similar subsoil moisture levels.

Winter wheat conditions vary widely, with 3% rated excellent, 33% in good condition, 38% fair, and 8% poor condition.  Seventy-two percent of the winter wheat has jointed, well head of the five-year average of 48%.
