Illinois planting nears completion

Planting is nearing completion for many Illinois farmers. 

Mark Tuttle raises corn and soybeans in DeKalb County. 

“Pretty well wrapped up around Memorial Day weekend in this area.”  He says, “Some stuff got planted nice in April, and then there was a little break and then everybody kind of finished up in May. There’s been a few areas locally here that have had an awful time with moisture.” 

The USDA’s latest weekly crop progress and condition report shows corn planting is now 93% complete, while soybeans are 87%.  

Tuttle tells Brownfield…

“The corn looks good.”  He says, “It’s starting to get that nice green color, and there’s a lot of knee-high corn here, and beans are all up out of the ground and growing very well.
