First alfalfa cutting happening for NE SD farmer

A farmer in northeastern South Dakota says he’s working on the first cutting of alfalfa on his farm.

Jason Frerichs tells Brownfield “it was starting to lodge, but stayed nice and green. We’re hoping for a decent crop even though we didn’t have much heat. It will be interesting to see how the first crop tests and it looks like we’re in good shape.”

USDA says South Dakota’s pasture and range conditions are rated 73% good to excellent.
