An agronomist says farmers who are dealing with hail damage this spring have several factors to consider. 

For soybeans, Matt Montgomery, with Pioneer says….

“I’m going to be looking to see if the cotyledons are still attached to those young soybean plants.”  He says, “If the plant is shaved off on beans below the cotyledons, I’m probably discounting that plant. Reducing my stand count.”

He tells Brownfield the viability of hail damaged corn depends on the status of the growing point.
