Broiler sets, placements remain ahead of 2023 pace

Broiler sets and placements continue to run ahead of last year’s pace.

The USDA says 245.524 million eggs were in incubation at the end of last week, slightly higher than the prior week and 1% faster than a year ago, with average hatchability holding at 79.1%.

Placements of broiler-type chicks into meat production were 188.877 million head, a little bit below the previous week, but up modestly on the year, with those birds moving to slaughter next month.
