Beginning farmers seek more support for nontraditional paths

A young farmer says niche marketing opportunities offer a lot of potential for new farmers but getting support can be challenging.

Michigan’s Darcy Lipskey tells Brownfield she found her path into agricultural entrepreneurship by raising Boer goats for local youth.

“We had to go out of state to find the goats and I saw a need in the community that nobody could really get quality or goats locally, so I started raising them mainly for a 4-H audience,” she says.
