April bump in turkey numbers looks temporary

Turkey hatchery numbers were up in April, but that expansion looks temporary.

The USDA says 21.345 million poults were hatched in April 2024, while 20.214 million poults were placed into meat production, both down from March, but up 1% from April 2023.

There were 25.528 million eggs in incubation on May 1st of this year, a drop of 3% on the month and 8% on the year, partially due to industry concerns about demand and profitability.
