A return to unseasonably mild, warm weather for most; a more showery pattern on the Plains

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions in the Pacific Northwest.  Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation across much of the eastern one-third of the U.S. should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in most areas west of the Mississippi River.
