A cool-off for much of the Heartland; heat builds to the west & south; ample rainfall opportunities

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions along and near the Canadian border from northeastern Montana to northern Maine.  Meanwhile, near- or above-normal rainfall across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal weather in parts of the Pacific Northwest.
