Third Time’s The Charm: Western Christian Claims First Boys State Soccer Title

Des Moines — The Western Christian Boys Soccer Team were victors over undefeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the Class 1A State Championship on Saturday morning (June 3). The Wolfpack claimed their first boys state soccer title in school history after taking home the runner-up trophy the past two seasons.

 

The game was scoreless going into the break before Western Christian scored almost immediately out of the gate to start the second half. In the 42nd minute Miles Baccam scored the first goal of the game and was assisted by Zachary Minderhoud. The Wolfpack led 1-0. Under 10 minutes later, in the 49th minute, Baccam would strike again with his second goal assisted by Kalen Hartbecke. Western Christian expanded their lead to 2-0 and that was the final score.

 

Miles Baccam led Western Christian with two goals in the championship match. The Wolfpack finished their season with a 15-2 record and the Class 1A State Title. Gladbrook-Reinbeck finished 20-1.
