Sioux Center Christian School Receives Governor’s STEM BEST Award

Sioux Center Christian School has been named one of the 37 schools awarded a STEM BEST grant by the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.

STEM BEST stands for Businesses Engaging Students and Teachers, and HD for High Demand. The program brings schools and businesses together to provide students with real workplace experiences, introduce businesses and career opportunities in Iowa, and gain career-ready skills. SCCS has been awarded $40,000 that will be put toward the Blazer Center addition, specifically for the planned construction of the science lab.

The STEM BEST + HD Program encourages teachers and industry professionals to work side-by-side to develop a work-based learning model that incorporates STEM subjects like mathematics and science with experiential learning opportunities to emphasize high-demand skills for the workplace. SCCS will be partnering with Interstates to make the project a reality.

STEM BEST awards were also given to the Boyden-Hull School District, MMCRU School District, MOC-FV School District, and the Okoboji Community School District. Last year, 12 awards were given and among the recipients were MOC-FV High School, MOC-FV Elementary School, and Sioux Center High School.
