New recreation trail connections in and around Sioux Center will be paved with the help of a $25,000 grant from the Pella Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Pella Corporation.

The foundation announced the $25,000 grant this week to help with construction of new recreation trails in Sioux Center, expanding the total length of trails to more than 8 miles.

“We really appreciate the generosity of Pella for something that will benefit the whole community and the entire area,” said Mayor David Krahling. “We’re grateful for Pella’s commitment to support quality of life and economic growth here.”

Expanding recreation trails continues to rise to the top in community priorities, including in the 2018 community survey, which residents ranked as a top priority for future parks investments. Trails connect neighborhoods, schools, parks, commercial areas and public facilities, and studies have linked them to community vitality.

“We’re excited about Pella’s support as we continue to develop trails in Sioux Center,” said Sioux Center Trails Council member Darryl Ten Pas. “It’s great to see the support from community businesses as well as residents.”

The Pella Foundation provides grants and works to shape the communities in which Pella Corporation team members live and work. Pella Corporation opened its Sioux Center manufacturing facility in 2000.

“This grant is about investing in local quality of life, and recreation trails add so much because they are available to everyone and promote wellness, safety for pedestrians, and community connections,” said Pella Corporation’s Sioux Center Plant Manager Denny Van Zanten. “Our employees are excited about adding trails and strengthening the community where we work and live.”
