LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced their 2022 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-Region teams, as three Northwestern College volleyball student-athletes were named to the West Central Region.

This year’s NWC All-Region team performers include Bekah Horstman (Sr., Pella, Iowa) and Alysen Dexter (So., Urbandale, Iowa) were named to the All-Region team, while Jazlin De Haan (So., Orange City, Iowa) was tabbed Honorable Mention.

Since the West Central Region became a region in the AVCA’s in 2008, the Raiders have had at least one All-West Central Region player awarded each season under head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. Bekah Horstman – West Central All-Region

Horstman had a stellar senior season for the Raiders this season, leading the team in hitting percentage with a .350 mark. It sat second in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and ninth nationally in the category.

Horstman continued to prove that she’s one of the best blockers in the NAIA, sitting fourth in the nation with her 1.32 blocks per set. Her 139 total blocks also sat top-20 in the nation in a three-way tie for 14th. In the GPAC, the blocks per set led the league and her total blocks sat in a two-way tie for second.

Additionally, her 289 kills this season was the second-most in a season in her Red Raider career (325 in 2021). It ranked third on the team, as did her 2.75 kills per set mark.

Horstman earned back-to-back First Team All-Conference honors in her final season as a Red Raider from her middle hitter position.

Alysen Dexter – West Central All-Region

Last year’s AVCA Freshman of the Year in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Honorable Mention All-Region garnered her first-career All-Region team in her sophomore season in Orange City. The Urbandale, Iowa native played in all 31 matches and 107 sets the Red Raiders played in this season.

Dexter snuck into the team lead at the Final Site of the NAIA Women’s Volleyball national tournament in Sioux City, finishing with 384 kills at a clip of 3.59 kills per set. The marks sat sixth and fourth in the GPAC, respectively.

Jazlin De Haan – Honorable Mention All-Region

Transfer sophomore De Haan landed Honorable Mention All-Region honors in her first season in the red and white. She finished second on the team in kills with 382, being just one of two Raiders to notch 350+ on the season along with Dexter. The mark sat sixth in the league this season. Per set, she averaged 3.57 kills which ranked fifth in the GPAC this season.

Defensively, behind the libero, De Haan had the most digs on the team, just shy of 300 (293). She notched 2.74 kills per set. In the back row, the Orange City native recorded a .942 receiving percentage, taking a team-high 677 serves. She also recorded the fourth-best number in blocks (64), including five solo blocks.

De Haan also landed First Team All-GPAC honors this season for the Red Raiders.
